  • Program on board the M/V Discovery engages student interest in scientific inquiry-based activities. A five hour cruise focuses on oysters and oyster farming in Kachemak Bay. The program provides hands-on opportunities related to water sampling, collection of plankton, tides and currents, ocean acidification, and a tour of the Gull Island seabird rookery. Learning can be extended through plankton labs at the Islands and Ocean Visitor Center. $120 per person. April-August. $102 per person if done with an Alaska Coastal Ecology Program.
